DPPs can help the batteries industry to increase circularity and reduce waste

More than just a tool for verifying sustainable and responsible manufacturing in line with ESPR legislation and circularity initiatives – Digital Product Passports are a tool for enabling widespread business transformation.

DPP Impact

Digital Product Passports can store data relating to each product at a granular level, giving a holistic view of its whole lifecycle and environmental impact. The data DPPs contain can provide organisations with an immutable audit trail for compliance with upcoming legislation, as well as give valuable insight into an organisation’s supply chain operations.

Sustainable Sourcing

DPPs can contain raw material data, down to its extraction method and location. This is displayed within the DPP for stakeholders to scrutinise, proving the manufacturing materials used - from lead to lithium - are ethically and sustainably sourced.

Increased Circularity

By increasing the availability of sustainability data, recycling instructions and end-of-life information, DPPs allow stakeholders across the battery supply chain to make informed decisions and expands the longevity of battery product lifecycles overall.

Advanced Safety

DPPs contain durability and safety information for battery products which can be updated in real time, empowering manufacturers to accurately predict the maximum longevity of their products, identify and anticipate potential safety issues, and notify customers of faults.

DPPs are mandated for many industrial battery products made or sold within the EU between 2027 & 2030.

The battery industry is required to make significant changes.

DPPs enable organisations to satisfy the regulatory requirements that will be imposed by the Battery Regulation, which mandates the implementation of battery passports by 18th February 2027 for batteries in light means of transport (LMT), industrial batteries and EVs. For organisations that want to future-proof their operations and gain a first-mover advantage, it would be best to start considering a DPP solution now.
